Medication administration
Written consent for medication administration is mandatory and no over the counter medicines such as Ibuprofen, Tylenol, cough drops, or cold medicine will be given unless the parent requests in writing and provides the medication. Prescription medication must be kept in the school clinic and will be given only as ordered by the doctor. If you have any questions regarding your child's medication use at school, please feel free to call the nurse.

Fever and Illness

We feel strongly that good attendance is extremely important to your child's success at school. They must be here to learn!

Sometimes it is hard to decide whether to send your child to school when he or she doesn't feel well. This may help. Also, refer to your student handbook for regulations.

A RUNNY NOSE is the way many children respond to pollen, dust, or simply a change in the season. If it is not the common cold, then it is an allergy. Do not keep the child home from school as long as they are fever free. But be sure they practice good hand washing and cough or sneeze into their elbow not their hands or the air.

A BAD COUGH can indicate a severe cold, bronchitis, flu, asthma flare up, or even pneumonia. If your child is not acting right, has a fever of 100 degrees or above, has difficulty breathing, or is becoming dehydrated, it could be serious. Keep your child home and Check with your doctor.

DIARRHEA and VOMITING make children very uncomfortable. If your child has repeated episodes of diarrhea and vomiting, accompanied by fever of 100 or above, a rash or general weakness, consult a doctor and keep your child out of school until the illness passes. However, a single episode of diarrhea or vomiting, unaccompanied by any other symptoms, may not be reason enough for the child to miss school. Please be sure we know how to reach you, if needed. A child will be sent home if 2 episodes of diarrhea or vomiting have occurred in a 24hr period.

FEVER A student must stay home if his/her temperature is 100 or higher. The student may return to school when free of fever (without a fever reducing medication like Tylenol or Motrin/Advil) for at least 24hours.

STREP THROAT or Scarlet Fever caused by a streptococcal (bacterial) infection. Common symptoms - a sore throat along with fever, headache, stomachache. A child with strep throat should be kept home and treated with antibiotics, as prescribed by a doctor. The student may return to school after they have been on antibiotic treatment for at least 24hrs and they are not running fever.

PINK EYE or CONJUNCTIVITIS is highly contagious and uncomfortable. Symptoms - complains of an eye or eyes burning, itching, and producing a whitish or crusty discharge. Minor cases (caused by a virus) and severe cases (caused by bacteria) may require treatment with prescription eye drops. The student may return to school when prescription medication has been started for 24hrs or they have a doctor's note stating the student is not contagious.

Fiebre y enfermedades
Recuerde que cualquier estudiante con temperatura de 100.0 o mas debe quedarse en casa y no puede regresar a clases hasta que hayan pasado 24 horas sin fiebre (sin tomar medicamento para reducir la fiebre).

Change of clothing at school

Charlie

Kids from all grades come to the clinic for a change of clothes. This can be from a nose bleed, bathroom accident, ripped clothing, falling in the mud, spilled milk etc. We ask that borrowed clothes as washed and returned as soon as possible. We can not recycle underwear so if possible please return a new pair instead. We are always looking for NEW underwear, so if you have any that haven't been worn, that need to be donated...send them our way!! (for both boys and girls..any sizes)
